Avila Beach

With fewer than 1,000 residents, Avila Beach is one of the smallest towns on California’s Central Coast.  However, Avila Beach real estate has a lot to offer.  The beach is protected by the natural landscape so wind and coastal fog are minimal.  In its earlier days, the town served as a major shipping port for San Luis Obispo.  The Harford Pier is still a working fishing pier that allows cars to drive along it.  You can arrange private charters for ocean fishing or a few hours of whale and sea lion watching.

Port San Luis Harbor offers mooring, a water taxi and dry dock.  Fishermen enjoy fishing from the pier for halibut, salmon, shark and even barracuda.  You can kayak or arrange an adventure boat tour and paddle around to explore the area. There is surfing, kite and wind surfing and boogie boarding, too.

The Avila Promenade along the beach area has interesting specialty shops, art and antique stores, food vendors and charming restaurants to serve the abundance of fresh seafood and produce available.  Come to the Avila Beach Fish and Farmers Market on Friday night for wonderful food, food demos and live entertainment.

The beach is well designed for the comfort of human visitors.  There is a play park for the kids and BBQ pits in the sand so you can grill your picnic meal.  Walk along the tide pools at the northern end of the beach and get to know the sea creatures that are visiting until the next tide.  Restaurants, shops and restroom facilities are all close by.  An area known as Pirates Cove was secluded enough for smugglers to bring in liquor during prohibition and now is one of the few nude beaches in California.

When you’re not in the water, you can hike, run or bike along the Bob Jones Trail which runs from the natural wooded area along the golf course perimeter, through the town to the Avila Pier.  The views of the ocean, the town and passing landscape are worth the trip.  The Avila Bay Fitness and Tennis Club offers two swimming pools, tennis courts, exercise equipment and massage.  Golfers will find a challenging game and beautiful surroundings at the Avila Beach Golf Resort.

When you are in need of relaxation, try a spa.  Natural mineral hot springs have drawn a number of spa operators to the area who are ready to treat and pamper you.

Avila Beach real estate runs the gamut from gated estate communities of custom homes with all the high end fixtures and finishes to condominiums and townhomes offering a more carefree life style, and single family homes in residential neighborhoods.  Many of the homes here have beautiful views of the ocean, the canyons or the golf course.

If you would like to explore the possibilities for making Avila Beach your next home, I have the local expertise you need to make the right purchase decision for you and your family.  Call me at 805-709-3297 or send an email below.  I look forward to providing the tools and information you need to reach your goals.
