Fishermen surf fish from the piers or go out in boats for deep sea fishing. Charter services are available to guide you to the best areas. Freshwater fishing is good at area lakes and parks. Try your luck at Lopez Lake for crappie, bass and catfish. Or enjoy the mountain view as you paddle a canoe around the lake.
Pismo Beach Pier area and Avila Beach Promenade have charming shops and unique restaurants and activities to entertain you. People here are having fun in the sun and fresh air. Festivals celebrate everything from Blues and Beer in Avila Beach to Strawberries in Arroyo Grande and Clams in Pismo Beach. Come to Art on the Beach or Concerts at the Cove. Watch the 4th of July Parade of Boats. Enjoy food, music and special events regularly during the year.
PARKS AND RECREATION
When the landscape calls you, there are plenty of places to walk, jog, run, ride a bike, rollerblade, ride an ATV in the sand of Oceano Dunes or a mountain bike up the hills. The Bob Jones Trail offers an easily accessible path through the wooded areas and along the golf course perimeter through the city to the beach for hikes, bikes and dog walks. It ends at Avila Pier. There are numerous trails from easy strolls to strenuous climbs throughout the area offering a variety of scenic views along with the exercise. State and local Parks for camping, water sports and picnics are everywhere.
There’s the SLO Botanical Garden and the Zoo if you like your plants and animals manicured and contained. There are lots of outdoor music performances throughout the area, Concerts in the Park in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande or Jubilee by the Sea Jazz Concerts. Ride along with the quirky group of costumed riders in the bike parade held monthly in San Luis Obispo.
Golfers have a large selection of courses with incredible scenery. You will enjoy time on the course even on a bad day. Choose one like the tree lined fairways and ocean views of Morro Bay Golf Club, and test your putting on the Cypress Ridge Golf Course designed by Peter Jacobsen. Avila Beach Golf Resort offers member programs to suit players who play several times a week or a few times a year on oak lined greens that cross a tidal estuary. Dairy Creek is a challenging course of elevation changes and water features.
Local Farmers Markets are held daily on the Central Coast. The fresh abundance of locally grown produce on Friday (seasonally) at the Avila Beach Fish and Farmers Market and Thursday Farmers Market in San Luis Obispo. Chefs and locals shop for fresh produce and specialty items, listen to live music, taste prepared treats from local vendors and meet their friends and neighbors in a party atmosphere.
